What Approach? – Interpret
Not every license begins in 3D. Sometimes a client needs us to reimagine a 2D character for the three-dimensional world—an exercise that often involves solving design puzzles for features that simply couldn’t exist, as drawn, in reality. In 2D, proportions can shift from one frame to the next without consequence, but when those same characters step into 3D, every angle has to work.
Take Nickelodeon’s Nella the Princess Knight: its world is built from bold, pastel shapes and storybook-style charm. The characters have clean, distinctive silhouettes rather than detailed shading, so when we brought them into 3D, our challenge was to retain their instantly recognisable appeal while ensuring the models functioned beautifully in real space.
